Sunset Bioluminescence Tour

Overview
Sunset is a magical time on the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge. There is movement everywhere. Dolphins are rounding up their dinner, manatees are moving into the shallows to find a comfortable spot to spend the night. As the light fades and the sky ignites with dynamics color, “Mullethead Island,” a federally protected rookery, buzzes with activity as many of the refuge’s 358 unique bird species flock above you to their protected nests for the night. Typical species to expect include Ibis, herons, egrets, pelicans, cormorants, and roseate spoonbills, all set to the backdrop of rocket launch pads and iconic NASA landscape. Launch into your escape.

We loved our experience, the birds, the kayaks, the dolphin and our guide Brian was great, it was like paddling with a friend, a knowledgable friend! Our only disappointment is that it was called sunset biolumenescent tour and there was no biolumenescence to be seen, apparently that happens a bit later beyond sunset time. That was our main reason for taking the tour :-( , but as said, the guide and experience we did have was excellent.

Had such an amazing time with Brian the tour guide. Genuine care in nature and the preservation of wildlife. And he was so knowledgeable! We got to see manatees, birds, dolphins and ended with a beautiful sunset. I can't wait to come back in the summer time to catch the bioluminescent plankton. My husband and I thought it was all breathtaking. So many surreal moments.

Our friend group had an amazing time on this kayaking tour with Bob. We travelled from Missouri to vacation here in Florida for a week and this was by far the highlight of our trip. Not only did we get to see the bird island that we signed up for, but we were lucky enough to have close encounters with manatees, see dolphins and gators, and catch the start of the bioluminescence from the dinoflagellate. On top of that we were able to catch a beautiful sunset and had the very knowledgeable Bob leading the way who was full of endless facts and jokes to make the experience even more enjoyable. I would recommend this trip to anyone who has an interest in nature, animals, kayaking, or anyone who just likes to have a good time! Thank you for our unforgettable experience. I would do it again in a heartbeat!
