Overview

While visiting, cross ‘learning how to surf’ off your to-do list! Learn surf techniques, safety rules and surf-break etiquette under the guidance of certified lifeguards and surf instructors. Choose either a small-group or private lesson, or if surfing isn’t up your alley, try stand-up paddleboarding instead! A bit easier than surfing, it’s still a great way to enjoy the beach while you’re on Oahu.

Additional Info

Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
Minimum age is 5 years for surfing lesson
Minimum age is 12 years for the stand-up paddleboarding lesson

They're a well organized team. I arrived at the beach on time, they asked me what my goal for the lesson was, I signed the waiver, put on my gear and I was working with Namaka in no time. We had a quick session to form correct habits on the board and then we were in the water. I was successful in getting up and surfing a few times. Namaka was good at pointing out the things I was forgetting and made sure that we were in the right place to catch the good waves. This was my first time riding on green-water waves but they weren't intimidating. When I got back, there were pictures and they wanted to know if I had accomplished my goal. I had set the bar low by stating I wanted to have fun, so I had no trouble saying yes.

We had a great time, my rashguard (they lent me) got torn to shreds and they were super easy going about it which was nice, our girls’ instructors had them surfing within 10 minutes, I will do better next time, my instructor was very patient and tried very hard for me. A great workout and I want to return and try again!
