Overview

While visiting, cross ‘learning how to surf’ off your to-do list! Learn surf techniques, safety rules and surf-break etiquette under the guidance of certified lifeguards and surf instructors. Choose either a small-group or private lesson, or if surfing isn’t up your alley, try stand-up paddleboarding instead! A bit easier than surfing, it’s still a great way to enjoy the beach while you’re on Oahu.

Additional Info

Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
Minimum age is 5 years for surfing lesson
Minimum age is 12 years for the stand-up paddleboarding lesson

My husband and I honeymooned in Hawaii over 20 years ago. It was our goal to be able to return with our three kids. Our family made it to Oahu just before the world changed to respond to the COVID19 global pandemic. We planned with Surf HNL the private surf lessons at Ko'Olina for each family member. We had a couple days of heavy rain but the day of our surfing excursion the sun was out, weather hot. When we arrived to Eisenhower Beach, we were literally the only ones there with the HNL team. The waves were full and beautiful. The perfect setting for the excursion everyone was dreaming about. The excursion was for my husband and 3 kids. I thought to go last minute and then I remembered why I didn't. I wanted to focus my time not learning how to surf but to witness my family experience a dream come true moment. I teared watching them embrace the ocean and waves, hearing them laugh and seeing their smiles expressing their complete and utter joy of catching the waves on a surfboard. My husband and kids all are experienced snowboarders enjoying our Canadian winters. They're first experience with surfing showed they were strong, graceful and quick learners. But they did have extremely supportive and motivating surf instructors! :) The overall experience with Surf HNL was incredible! From the travel arrangements to and from the excursion to the quality of the instructors. The HNL team is class act- super talented, highly professional and friendly. We did purchase the private lessons per family member, the photo package and travel arrangements to and from hotel. Worth every single penny! Forever grateful for the Surf HNL experience. A dream come true experience <3

Surfing off of Eisenhower beach with Surf HNL was a highlight of our Oahu vacation. Our entire family (11, 9, 7 and both parents) was up on the board and the amazing photos with a telephoto lens are incredible memories. Their entire team were attentive and fun. Safety was also stressed. Chase made sure that everyone had at least 1 great ride. Our sons are already hoping for a return visit. Can’t recommend them more highly!

Our instructors, Chase and Laka, were very engaging and had us up on the board in almost no time. The level of attentiveness, effort and care for a safe and fun experience that these instructors put into their training was exceptional. We learned a lot from them in a short time and they made the entire experience very informative and welcoming for newcomers. We highly recommend this team! Thanks a lot for a great time on the waves!
