Overview

Want to learn how to surf? There’s no better place to start than Hawaii, where the art of surfing has been cultivated for centuries. Get a fun-filled introduction with this 2-hour lesson at Barbers Point, a beach on the west side of Oahu that has good waves and no crowds. Your expert instructor shows you the basics to get you up on the board and catching waves. Choose a private one-on-one lesson or a small-group lesson with no more than four people per instructor.

My 18 year old daughter took lessons from Surf HNL, and was able to stand up on the board during the one hour lesson. This is hard to do, and I credit the fine instructors. Bird was her main instructor, during this group lesson, but most of her hour turned into a private lesson with him. She was assisted by Babac, Malina, and Tiana, too. They were all professional, enthusiastic, and supportive. We couldn't have asked for a better crew. The location is perfect, because it's not crowded. You don't need to worry about crashing into other beginners, while trying to catch your waves. We recommend purchasing the photo package, too. The professional photography is far superior to any picture you'll take on your phone. They shoot the pictures from the beach, with a high powered lens, and they capture all of the action shots, clearly. 10/10 recommend!

I was torn between Surf HNL and learning to surf somewhere on the North Shore. Disney’s Aulani recommended Surf HNL. I agree 100%! They picked us up from the resort right on time and were super friendly and inviting from the start. Our friend, who was along for the ride to be a spectator, was welcomed with opened arms. Our instructors (Jared, JR, Mike and James) were amazing. When I was completely exhausted they continued to help me out to the breaks so I could continue to enjoy the surfing. Bacca provided the most incredible photos, that made even me as a beginner, look like I belonged on the cover of a magazine. I cannot say enough about this company. You are never too old to try this (I am 44 and had never surfed). Incredible experience made from amazing instructors and crew! THANK YOU SURF HNL!!!
