Surfing - Group Lesson - Waikiki, Oahu

Overview
Learn to surf on this 2-hour group lesson on Oahu.  Join a group of students and discover how to ride the waves like some of the Island's most famous celebrities with the help of a certified, professional instructor.  We have small student to instructor ratio of 1 instructor for every 3-4 students.  Waikiki Surf Lesson starts a 10 minute safety slide show inside our surf shop, followed by heading to the beach and practicing on the sand for another 10 minutes.  In our 20 year experience, we know that surfing is muscle memory, so when first timers master their surf stance then they tend to get up on their very first wave.

My husband and I really wanted to learn how to surf and our instructor was not the most friendly. We got some tips on land then went out to the water. He kept checking his watch and while their were only 3 of us in the group lesson we each only got 5 times to try and catch a wave. Each of us did stand up at least 1 time. We then headed in. Once we returned my husband noticed that we didn't even get a full 2 hours. I wish we had researched this better....for all of you interested they have some great instructors not far from the resort if you have a car. They will teach you how to surf and make sure that you catch several waves and want you to have a good time. Just look for signs along the road.

I was a little bit apprehensive, sending the kids out surfing for the first time (12 & 13) but Jason from Hans Hederman looked after them so well they were desperate for more lessons. The CD at 30 dollars is pricey but worth the expense because no way could you get those kind of shots with your domestic camera. Surfing in Hawaii, got to be done

Well first off let me say that taking a surf lesson was one of the things I wanted to do most. We were staying at Turtle Bay and my husband didnt feel like driving to another surf school in Haleiwa. We walked down to the desk and the lady there suggested a semi private lesson because the group would be too big and you would get more attn in a smaller setting. Semi privates were 50 dollars more a person but we thought it would be worth it. We came down at our lesson time. The instructors were all very nice and friendly--- so that was a plus. However, we were basically put into the 8+ person group. The only difference is we had our own instructor for the two of us. He pushed us on waves more. That was the only difference. However, if this is your first time--I would probably just go in the group. You get more rest time that way. We paid 45 bucks for the pic cd and I felt it was a rip off. I feel like the girl at the counter just wanted to take us for our money. The instructors were pretty good--- the guys that have been there awhile were great--try to go with them.
