I timed my visit to Salt Lake City to make sure I was there on a Thursday to do this tour because I was so intent on seeing the Tabernacle Choir.
What made this tour so much more interesting than I envisaged was the willingness of the guide to share some very personal insights from his own life as a Mormon, including a relative from way, way back who embraced polygamy. Through hearing his own history and me asking an occasional question, I was able to come away from the tour with a much deeper understanding of the history and customs.
While being driven through Salt Lake City, it struck me that I had never seen such opulence and fine architecture. Sights visited, such as the Capitol Building, are just extraordinary. Take a look at the pics.
The tour concluded with the Tabernacle Choir rehearsal where the musicians and singers were put through their paces by an exacting conductor. It was a little hard to hear all his pointers precisely so Iāll paraphrase:
āYouāve got to understand that this will be on television and thatās awful body language so you need to fix that.ā
During God Bless America:
āThat word is not being delivered correctly. Itās a ...sound rather than a...sound so letās do that again.ā
During ever second take I listened intently for what he wanted fixed and the choir was able to do so with aplomb. Witnessing what I had only ever seen on television and online was uplifting. An unforgettable experience.
Thank you City Sights.
