Taos Pueblo

UNESCO World Heritage Site - Taos Pueblo a living community dating back over a thousand years and many of the traditions and original structures are still intact PLEASE NOTE: Taos Pueblo can close at any time due to cultural, ceremonial or other reasons. When this occurs we replace our visit with another cultural partner.

Rio Grande Gorge Bridge

Located within the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, the 7th tallest bridge in the United States.

San Francisco de Assisi Mission Church

Built in the 1700s and rising up from the earth like a ship on the ocean, this adobe parish has inspired artists throughout time, including Ansel Adam and Georgia O’Keeffe, and has been argued the most depicted Church in the world.

La Hacienda del los Martinez

(approx. 1804 AD). This historical family home with central courtyards will transport you back in time. The home, now a living museum, features important Santos (religious painted carving of saints, original adobe structures, and hand dyed weavings and looms.)

We had a wide ranging tour with Shane that gave us a great overview of the very different cultures that make up the history and daily life of Taos. The private tour of Taos Pueblo was given by a local guide who spent over an hour describing the history, architecture and current lifestyle in the Pueblo. We also visited the beautiful gorge bridge and the San Francisco Asis church. We were fascinated by the Spanish colonial period at the Hacienda de Los Martinez. We gained a valuable amount of knowledge about the Spanish, Pueblo and American histories that served us well for the rest of our wanderings in the area. Highly recommend

Our tour guide Shane was very knowledgeable and made our experience very personal. Each site had fascinating history and the views from the Rio Grande gorge were breathtaking. Shane provided background and context for all of the sites we visited. The Pueblo guide explained the Pueblo way of life.
