Te Au Moana Luau
Te Au Moana, translated as  the ocean tide, has always been a constant throughout Oceania, connecting our islands, peoples and generations. Our Polynesian ancestors traversed these oceans tides for ages and revered them for their life sustaining properties. Their stories, which spoke of their expert skills in fishing, gathering and voyaging demonstrated the tremendous depths of knowledge and respect they had to the Earth and its elements. As Hawaii’s premier entertainment company, Tihati Productions endeavors to bring these stories to life at “Te Au Moana: The Ocean Tide”. We invite you to  dine as the ocean sits peacefully before you, as it has for thousands of years. We ask you to  dance under the Maui skies; the moon and stars await you and we hope that you  discover all the fascinating stories at “Te Au Moana: The Ocean Tide” a spectacular lu’au experience like no other!

Lovely location on Wailea Beach (although it was hot with no air movement the night we went). There were stations for the guests to get tattoos, watch the pig roast, make bookmarks, get flowers in their hair etc. The lines for drinks weren't long and moved quickly. Good food (although sauce for the kahlua pig would have been good) and nice entertainment with hula dancers, music and fire dancing. We were looking for a luau with the pig roasting in the ground and fire dancers and this one delivered. Please note it last several hours. I felt it ran a bit long for my attention span and definitely for children.

This show really surprised me in quality and overall experience four two adults and two children (ages 7 and 10). Yes, it is quite a walk to the luau area, but we took other's advice and wore good shoes and it wasn't a bother. I should note, there was parking available for luau visitors, however it was a pretty small number. We arrived at 4:15 which allowed us to get one of the free luau parking spots and be first in line. We purchased the preferred seating which was certainly worth the extra money. We were in a different, shorter line and were seated first. We were each given a floral lei and asked to take a picture (for purchase later for $34). Seating did not begin until 5:00pm. We were able to get seated and enjoy the open bar while others were waiting in line. We were seated in the front row which gave us a great view of the show. I should mention we went in mid-August and the sun was absolutely oppressive making the first hour pretty miserable since we were sitting in direct sunlight. The first half of the non-preferred seats were all in the shade. It took quite a while for everyone to get checked in. Things didn't really start happening until maybe 5:30pm. They had some "pre-show" activities around that time to include a bookmark making, flower in the hair, and a roll-on tattoo for the kids. Our children liked it. Food began around 6-6:30ish. Since we had preferred seating, we went first. The show started around 6:45 and was really well done.
