Te Au Moana Luau
Te Au Moana, translated as  the ocean tide, has always been a constant throughout Oceania, connecting our islands, peoples and generations. Our Polynesian ancestors traversed these oceans tides for ages and revered them for their life sustaining properties. Their stories, which spoke of their expert skills in fishing, gathering and voyaging demonstrated the tremendous depths of knowledge and respect they had to the Earth and its elements. As Hawaii’s premier entertainment company, Tihati Productions endeavors to bring these stories to life at “Te Au Moana: The Ocean Tide”. We invite you to  dine as the ocean sits peacefully before you, as it has for thousands of years. We ask you to  dance under the Maui skies; the moon and stars await you and we hope that you  discover all the fascinating stories at “Te Au Moana: The Ocean Tide” a spectacular lu’au experience like no other!

Everything was as expected...food was great and drinks were easy to get to. The show entertained my teenage and adult kids. The music was beautiful and went well with the sunset.

The premium seats were sold out by time we booked so we knew we were taking our chances with regular seating. Several reviews recommended arriving early, so we arrived at 4:15. The craft section was all of four tables full of things we had already seen around the island so we basically stood in the heat for 45 minutes. There was shade and ice water, and a few chairs for those who needed to sit. It paid off as we got great seats in the third row (the first row available after the premium seats) although honestly I am not sure there is a bad seat. I went to the bathroom early in the performance and actually liked the view from further back as well. It gave you a great panoramic of the ocean and trees that you missed being up so close to the stage. The drinks were strong and the open bar ran from entry until 8 pm. The food was okay. As an earlier reviewer stated the food is out on the table for a long time before the buffet is open. I didn't see any birds, but all of the bread was still uncovered and open. We were there during unseasonable hot and humid temps so I was a little bit wary of the salad dressing. The pre-show activities are minimal, but overall it was a decent time. I don't generally enjoy tours and things that are over commercialized, but we wanted our daughter to get to see a luau. I think it was probably one of the better ones based on all the reviews we looked at. We picked it specifically for having fire dancers and that part did not disappoint. An important thing to know is that it is a LONG walk from the parking area to the Luau location. The resort is huge. There are also several staircases to go up/down. If anyone has mobility issues that might be a concern. We had a minor medical emergency upon arrival and two of our party had to leave for the hospital. The resort went above and beyond to accommodate us. Security quickly carried them back via golf cart to the front and even retrieved our car when the valet was busy with Luau arrivals. They fully refunded the valet and the tickets. The customer service from everyone was top notch. It was well organized. The employees seemed happy to be there and genuinely wanted you to enjoy your night. I expected a bunch of burned out staff who do the same job every night, so was beyond surprised at the enthusiasm of the staff. Not something you find much anymore.

We had a wonderful time at this luau! The location and setting can't be beat! The food was delicious, the dancers were fantastic and looked like they were truly enjoying themselves. We wished it would have lasted longer!
