Te Au Moana Luau
Te Au Moana, translated as  the ocean tide, has always been a constant throughout Oceania, connecting our islands, peoples and generations. Our Polynesian ancestors traversed these oceans tides for ages and revered them for their life sustaining properties. Their stories, which spoke of their expert skills in fishing, gathering and voyaging demonstrated the tremendous depths of knowledge and respect they had to the Earth and its elements. As Hawaii’s premier entertainment company, Tihati Productions endeavors to bring these stories to life at “Te Au Moana: The Ocean Tide”. We invite you to  dine as the ocean sits peacefully before you, as it has for thousands of years. We ask you to  dance under the Maui skies; the moon and stars await you and we hope that you  discover all the fascinating stories at “Te Au Moana: The Ocean Tide” a spectacular lu’au experience like no other!

The guys playing with fire was our favorite part. I wish I could move my hips like the dancers, both the guys and girls. We enjoyed the family style of meal service since we had 2 young children in our group. We aren’t big drinkers, but we did sample the open bar, and virgin pina colada for our little girls. We were staying at the resort, and it was perfect to just walk to and from the luau.

I have been to several Luau's and this one was ok. For $2500 for a family of 9 I was expecting a better experience to be honest. I left feeling a little disappointed. All of the Luau's I have been to in the past have different area's set up that you can engage with the employees as they demonstrate how to make a Lei, basket ect. You are able to purchase hand made items. You are able to go to the spot that the dinner's pig is being cooked and even watch them retrieve it from the ground. This Luau did not offer any of that. As soon as you arrive food begins to be served to you family style and the show starts. We arrived early and paid extra for Premium seating, when we arrived we noticed an employee standing to the side with a camera. We got to our seats and took an initial picture as we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. While waiting we went to get a drink and by the time our party was there the gentlemen taking pictures was already gone. This was well before the show even started. The next thing we know our pictures had been developed and placed in a paper frame and we were offered to buy them for $50. I expressed to the gentlemen that I rather have a picture with my whole family and was disappointed on how briefly they were available to take pictures. He said he would be back to get me and my family so we could take the picture. He never returned. Save the $50, have someone take a picture of you and your family. Pay less than a $1 to get it printed and buy yourself a nice frame. You will still come out ahead. All in all there are less expensive Luau options that offer much more entertainment, quality food and an opportunity to mingle and meet new people. I would skip this one. I gave this a 4 star for the employees that worked hard & were so kind. For the event it's self I would give it a 2 star for the price vs what you get for that much money.

We had very high expectations on this event, especially after the amazing experience we had at the Alii Luau at the Polynesian cultural centre In O'ahu. But despite the decent show put up by the artists, the substandard food and poor service did cast a big shadow on the overall experience. When you pay $275 per head, you're expected to be served great food, at least. But here, almost every item was a disappointment. To begin with, the food was cold when served. The chicken became hard, the grilled beef and pulled pork became hardly enjoyable, and the noodles was bland and lacked flavors. The salad and the guava pastry was the only things we could enjoy. But again, when we requested for some more of the guava pastry, it was already over! They had served only probably 10-12 of them on the table where 10 of us where seated. They were serving food on the table instead of the buffet system, due to Covid restrictions. But I think they missed a trick by serving too much stuff at every table, thereby creating a lot of wastage of food. For eg, the guava pastry we wanted to try more was seen lying around untouched in at least 8 tables around us, when we were leaving. It was a disappointing sight. One more thing we did not like was that they kept serving food very fast and we felt pressurized to finish the courses way too quickly to our liking. May be, they were still getting used to moving from buffet to serving on the tables. The minibar was the only solace where they served a wide variety of cocktails. The staff were experienced, patient, and friendly. I'd like to mention that the person who served food at our table was friendly. She even took us to the beach to help us with taking pictures of our group. Overall, I'd not recommend this event if you're a food enthusiast, at least not for the price they're charging.
