The Anne Hutchinson Tour of Provincetown

Overview

Get an introduction to Provincetown from one of American history's most infamous. Decidedly NOT a Pilgrim, Anne Hutchinson knows her history well enough to have been banished from Massachusetts 400 years ago and will walk you through the center of town enlivening central sites poignant to Ptown's story. Don't expect a long trek (1 mi), but do expect the "licentiousness and sinful liberty" that got Anne banished long ago. This makes the tour for adults only. Receiving the seal of the Spirit that some have called comedy from Anne takes roughly an hour. Remember, Anne's detractors felt she had "rather been a husband than a wife” and hoped to be "extolled and admired and followed after." Nearly 400 years ago, they said I had "rather bine a Husband than a Wife... a preacher than a Hearer" and banished me from Massachusetts. Hm, well... I've been able to pull myself back and gain a toehold at the tip of the (now) state that United them all. Please join me in spreading my "corrupt opinions" once more on a history tour through Provincetown's center! As the Puritans' worst nightmare and icon for renovating gender, I think you will find there is no better mouth from which to hear Ptown's story. Leaning into foes' accusations of "Licentiousnesse and sinfull Liberty", some call my modern preaching comedy. Please understand therefore that the tour is for adults only. Do not waste time in discovering the grace of true Christ in your souls and join me as a member of the Elect!

Absolutely splendid! What an expected treat. We expected a dowdy Anne of Puritan roots - instead we got an outrageously original experience of the history and goings-on in Ptown back in the day. When we Goggled "best things to do in Ptown," this tour rated #1. They were right, it is. Don't miss it!

I loved her version of history! Best teacher ever! I learned a lot in a short period of time and she was hilarious! I definitely recommend this tour.

This was a fantastic tour. I live in Provincetown and have seen Anne touring about for two years now, but never joined the tour. I had family in town and decided to take part. Anne's tour gives you an extremely informative look at the history of Provincetown and the nation. She does it all with great humor and wit. Come ready to laugh and learn. It's the perfect activity if you are visiting!
