The Anne Hutchinson Tour of Provincetown

Overview

Get an introduction to Provincetown from one of American history's most infamous. Decidedly NOT a Pilgrim, Anne Hutchinson knows her history well enough to have been banished from Massachusetts 400 years ago and will walk you through the center of town enlivening central sites poignant to Ptown's story. Don't expect a long trek (1 mi), but do expect the "licentiousness and sinful liberty" that got Anne banished long ago. This makes the tour for adults only. Receiving the seal of the Spirit that some have called comedy from Anne takes roughly an hour. Remember, Anne's detractors felt she had "rather been a husband than a wife” and hoped to be "extolled and admired and followed after." You can now do just that by finding her 1600s epithet on social (@americanjesabel) for a sampling of this experience.

Nearly 400 years ago, they said I had "rather bine a Husband than a Wife... a preacher than a Hearer" and banished me from Massachusetts. Hm, well... I've been able to pull myself back and gain a toehold at the tip of the (now) state that United them all. Please join me in spreading my "corrupt opinions" once more on a history tour through Provincetown's center! As the Puritans' worst nightmare and icon for renovating gender, I think you will find there is no better mouth from which to hear Ptown's story. Leaning into foes' accusations of "Licentiousnesse and sinfull Liberty", some call my modern preaching comedy. Please understand therefore that the tour is for adults only. Do not waste time in discovering the grace of true Christ in your souls and join me as a member of the Elect!

My boyfriend, his mother, and I really enjoyed our tour of Provincetown with Anne Hutchinson! The tour was silly and informative and we all loved it. While I've done many guided tours, I've never done one quite like this! And, I'd think it would be obvious from the nature of the town and tour, but if you or any friends have any deeply held conservative political or religious beliefs... don't come.

A wildly entertaining, thoroughly unique tourist experience! We had a fantastic time with Anne as she spit rapid-fire jokes and historical facts with an acid tongue and sly self-deprecation. She offers a refreshingly contemporary take on Provincetown and Massachusetts history, ripping on the Puritans as well as our long history of caucasian hypocrisy and sanctimony. This is far from a "this house was built in blah-blah" type tour, and thank god. Part stand-up, part history lesson, Anne Hutchinson is a queer treasure - she's not to be missed!
