What To Expect
1
Hana Highway - Road to Hana
The Beautiful and Amazing Road to Hana. The Road to Hana is the crown-jewel of Hawaii driving tours. Lush rainforest, dramatic and rugged ocean vistas, countless waterfalls and pools. General Geographic Area: Road to Hana Maui General Geographic Area: Road to Hana Maui In a nutshell: The Road to Hana is the crown-jewel of Hawaii driving tours. Lush rainforest, dramatic and rugged ocean vistas, countless waterfalls and pools. Minuses: If you get car-sick, there are going to be 600 opportunities to review your breakfast. Sound-bite: “600 turns?!? More like one 50-mile-long turn…”
2
Red Sand Beach - Kaihalulu Beach
Red Sand Beach is a dramatic and beautiful hidden cove unlike any other. The ocean outside the cove is almost always a deep, almost surreal Kool-Aid blue, and rages relentlessly against the dramatic and rugged coastline. The crescent-shaped beach is cut deep into the Ka’uiki Head cinder cone, whose rust-red lava cinder cliffs supply the beach with its red sand. These cliffs of loose crumbly cinders tower almost vertically, yet somehow remain intact to impressive heights. The cove is protected on the ocean side by a wall of jagged black lava rock, further contributing to this almost otherworldly scene. WARNING: Part of the trail was lost to a landslide and has become more dangerous than it once was. This is not a safe hike for anyone unaccustomed to navigating cliff-edges with slippery/unsound footing. In a nutshell: A dramatic and beautiful hidden cove unlike any other. Minuses: The short hike to the beach is hazardous. Sound-bite: “Has the Mothership departed without me?”
3
Alelele Falls
A short hike from the roadway gets you a 80 foot tall natural waterfall with refreshing pool at the bottom. Most people drive right by Alelele as they speed off to one of the more popular nearby destinations, such as the pools at Oheo, making this waterfall peaceful and quiet.
4
Laulima Farm
Laulima Farm is a 13-acre family farm in the Kipahulu Valley on Maui. They have been using organic and biodynamic practices since the beginning and are continually evolving to include more regenerative and ecologically sound practices on the land. Featuring fresh maui coffee grown on site, tea, fresh fruit, farm popcorn, coconut water, gifts, and much more.
5
Charles Lindbergh's Grave
For those that wish to visit this scenic site. Lindbergh’s grave is a simple granite slab laid upon lava stones, located in the yard behind the Palapala Congregational Church. Built in 1857, the historic church sits on a cliff overlooking the dramatic coastline. It’s also the first building to greet the morning sunrise on Maui. The church grounds provide a serene setting for meditation and reflection, and Charles Lindbergh loved this peaceful part of the island.
