The Turquoise Museum Curator's Tour

Overview
The Turquoise Museum in Albuquerque, New Mexico showcases the J.C. “Zack” Zachary turquoise collection. The collection includes turquoise from over 80 locations around the world, several one of a kind pieces including the “George Washington Stone” (a large turquoise stone with a remarkable resemblance to George Washington), and displays show that off almost every aspect of “The World’s Most Colorful Gem”. Energetic, entertaining, and informative tours are guided by a member of the Lowry/Zachary Family. Visitors often remark, “we should have come here before we went shopping”.

Joe was great . It was informative and I could ask all the questions I wanted. I did not retain info on how to prevent being ripped off.

This is a world-class museum which is further enhanced (should you get the opportunity) to talk with the founder, Joe Dan, who is a fascinating person! I was really amazed at the extensive displays and at the depth of explanation throughout the museum. Although the recommended visit time is 2 hours, I could have spent much more time as the detail and number of exhibits is amazing. Even though I am a certified gemmologist, I learned much about turquoise than I thought possible! I would go back in a heart beat! Small tip: get your tickets directly through the museum; other websites cost considerably more.
