Our guide was perfectly fine and I'm sure well versed in history, but highly disappointed that a 90 minute tour of the freedom trail never made it further than the cemetery just outside of Boston common. I had expected to see Old north Church, the Old State House, Paul Revere's House or even just as far as Faneuil Hall but we spent so much time in Boston Common and at a nearby cemetery, the Declaration of. Independence, Boston Massacre or Boston Tea Party were not even mentioned. Price was a bargain, but left feeling highly underwhelmed.

The Freedom Trail is a great way to meander through Boston. If you are up on your history it is easy to do this yourself.....follow the path marked out on the sidewalks....take your time along the way to sample some gelato or pastry in the North End...poke in the many shops of Quincy Market....see the sights. If you want a refresher course in the history of the sites....a guided tour is for you. Either way this is a great way to spend an afternoon or two. There is a fee to enter most of the main buildings of the tour....North Church...Paul Revere's house...etc. You can buy a ticket that covers all .It really isn't necessary to do so....so much to see that was free.

Our guide (on the 10:30am tour on Saturday, Sept 13) Mary something or other, opened with the premise that she was French and after a very long winded, uninteresting monologue about nothing her "accent" disappeared. 45 minutes later, yes 45 MINUTES LATER we had only made it up to the cemetery where Paul Revere is buried. This is where our patience ended as we had heard enough of her uninteresting prolonged dribble that was awkward and difficult to follow. We were compelled to abandon the guided tour and continued on our own. I'm sure there are wonderful guides full of interesting facts and tid bits that could make this tour worth the time and money, however we experienced the exact opposite.
