U Street neighbourhood is thriving and changing and maintaining its historical significance. Our guide Aleena was very knowledgeable and shared anecdotes and stories about important moments in the history of the neighbourhood from the role played by local land sites such as the Lincoln Theatre, a local bank, the first building designed by 2 African American architects... to the influential and memorable citizens like Ben Ali and Oscar Peterson who left valuable contributions to the quality of local life to the multicultural changes surrounding the people living there. The food tour was the motivation and reward for taking the tour and the commentary held it all together perfectly.

Hi Lenore ~ Thank you for this amazing review. I'm so thrilled that you appreciated our efforts to combine history with our tastings to meet our goal to tell the story of the neighborhood through food. We hope you join another tour with us in the future! Cheers, Mary

We went on the U street food tour in March... a rather cold and rainy day. The food tour really made up for all the miserable weather! Our guide was very knowledgeable about the best food places in Washington, and was able to talk us through some of the unusual dishes we tried (Ethiopian in particular!) and some of the history of the neighbourhood. Most interesting dish... the empanada in a gas station! We'd do this tour at the start of a visit to Washington as the guides can give some very useful tips on what to see and where to eat in Washington. A great half day out!!

Hi K P! I'm glad that guys had fun - even on a day with poor weather. Thanks for trusting us to share some new experiences with you - I hope that won't be the last time you try Ethiopian food. We do get a kick out of initial reactions when we arrive at our "gourmet gas station" stop. ha! :) ~Mary

We didn't know what to expect when the tour was booked for us, but my wife and I love food so off we went. The U Street Corridor normally wouldn't have been our choice but we didn't book it, however, we are glad we went. Let me start with our guide Tiffany, she was very knowledgeable on the history and knew so much about food in general and shared some great insights on coffee for us too. How she went the entire tour without eating I won't ever know since I wanted seconds from some of the spots. Ben's Chili bowl was fantastic and the history there made it even better. My wife liked Dukem Ethiopian, but probably because it made me eat vegetables. Between the food, company, and walking it was a great experience and ended with a fantastic dessert. I mean there is always room for dessert. Next time down we plan to hit some of the other tour offerings but highly recommend the experience as the company not only shows you great food places, they do things for the community, and tie in the history.

Hey agreenbe - Thank you so much for taking the time to write us such a thoughtful review! U St is definitely a bit off the beaten track for most people who visit...and that's exactly why we like it. :) We'll look forward to having you nd your wife on tour with us again! Cheers, Mary
