Any bags, packages, or containers that offer concealment (e.g., purses, handbags, backpacks, fanny packs, camera bags, diaper bags, luggage) that exceed the dimensions of 1.25" x 2.25" x 5.5" are not allowed. The Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum operates a baggage storage facility near the visitor center entrance, with a fee for all sizes, including luggage. This storage can be used for visits to all Pearl Harbor Historic Sites.

During your visit to Pearl Harbor National Memorial, you will be able to witness the USS Arizona Memorial. Even though Boat Shuttle tickets to go out on the water to the USS Arizona Memorial are not included, this world-renowned Memorial can be seen from Pearl Harbor Visitor Center. To obtain boat tickets, join the free in person Virtual Standby Queue upon arrival to the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center or reserve tickets ahead of time at recreation.gov for $1 booking fee per ticket)

Yesterday 12/19, we visited USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor. Learned much more about how Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and destroyed US Navy ships and fighter planes, control systems within 2 hours on December 7th, 1941. We wanted to pay respect and think about these 1177 soldiers on USS Arizona ( 900+ underneath this memorial), the lost of their lives and the impact on their families. Japanese Navy with fighters executed their plan perfectly, US military had no idea that Japan would attract US at Pearl Harbor. Wrong assumptions and underestimated enemies’ ambitions and capabilities. We felt so sad for US, and the lost of so many lives in Pearl Harbor attack. Thinking about 911, Russian invasion of Ukraine, we pray for peace. It is my son’ request to visit and pay respect to solders who died during the attack. All of us were in tears during the visit thinking about them. Japan won the Pearl Harbor attack but lost the war. We hope the Pearl Harbor lesson is learned for generations.

You need different kind of holiday expectations when you visit the Arizona Memorial and Pearl Harbor. It's simple, somber and short. You are, after all, visiting a Veterans' Cemetery. If you bring children or anyone who knows little of the dramatic events of December 7, 1941, be sure and read about it first, or watch some videos about it. This will enhance the experience greatly, otherwise, for children especially, it will seem pretty boring. Getting there can be challenging if you don't have a car. We took the hour long trip by TheBus from Waikiki. Cheap, but a real 75 minute rattle and roll.

Always going out to the memorial whenever I visit Oahu. Always an experience one never forgets. I just think of the sailors still entombed in the sunken hull.
