What To Expect

Verde Canyon Railroad

It’s not the destination, it’s the journey! Enjoy a luxurious train ride through a 20-mile wilderness area, along a wild and scenic river, only accessible by rail. For 3.5-hours, enjoy comfort and style, exceptional amenities and outstanding service in vintage rail cars on a century-old route. Wind your way through a red rock paradise, with tracks that hug the curves of the Verde River. Every season offers a different reason to ride! Astonishing views of a wild and vibrant frontier, historic trestles, bridges and a 7000-foot tunnel are just a few of the highlights tucked into unusual rock formations, red rock pinnacles and towering crimson cliffs. Majestic bald eagles and hawks float effortlessly on the breeze above Javelina, wild burros, jackrabbits and many other Canyon creatures, peacefully coexisting with this heritage railroad for more than 100 years.

John Bell Railroad Museum

At the depot, be sure to visit the John Bell Museum, home to the railroad's history and artifacts from its early days, as well as a wealth of information on Clarkdale, Jerome and the Yavapai-Apache Nation.

Verde River

The train runs on the same tracks that were created following the Verde River back in 1911. The river is visible for most of your journey.

the accommodations that were made for my legally blind husband and his guide dog made the trip much more relaxing. The snack box lasted the entire trip. The staff were very knowledgeable and entertaining.

Received last minute notification on Friday afternoon 10/28 that our confirmed trip was cancelled for Monday afternoon 10/31 due to mechanical issues and safety was a concern. Earliest reschedule was for Friday 11/4. We couldn’t rescheduled as our hotel accommodations at 3 different properties for a 4 day getaway were non cancelable at that late stage. My charges were refunded but I find it strange to not see any notifications posted on any social media platforms or any of their or partners web sites or booking platforms.

Please know that Verde Canyon Railroad would be open, and would provide you a fabulous experience, if we could. This cancellation is not made in haste and not by our own choosing. We utilize a rail line located in, and travel through, a wild and inaccessible canyon where things can happen that are out of our control. We understand and truly empathize with your frustration as we feel it as well. We are proud to note that we have successfully traveled through this canyon for more than 30 years as a scenic train ride and look forward to providing this amazing experience to future train passengers for many years to come.
