I was 2 seconds away from booking the safari when I realized there was a hiking option. My mom was in town for a week and this adventure checked every box for her: Exercise, wine, and ANIMALS! 1st - a little bit about the grounds. They are beautiful. I have been married for 2 years but whenever I find a wonderful new place my 1st thought is: I wish I got married here - and I was def. feeling that the Saddlerock Ranch. 2nd - Kurt. We lucked out with him. Sweet, subdued, down to have a great time. Will take endless pictures of you and always quick to offer up the best photo ops. Quick with info too. We really enjoyed our time with him and we were lucky because we were the only 2 visitors at that time with him so we got a very intimate tour. We really appreciated your time and expertise Kurt! 3rd - the animals. You get up close and personal with the GIRAFFE Stanley - a bunch of llamas, apalca's, Zebra's, buffalo's, donkey's etc. If you're an animal lover don't miss this and 100% do the hike NOT the safari. 4th: The hike. Wear sneakers and comfortable clothes. It was easy to moderate but it's hot out there. Bring water! 5th: 5 tastings of wine. Superb. The Sauv Blanc and Chard were our favorite. We got a private Giraffe and Hike tour since we had 6+ in our group. We came to celebrate a bridal shower/bachelorette party, but you really don't need any excuse to come here! Kurt is AMAZING and I'm so glad he was our guide. He knew all the best spots and angle for photos. He was friendly, knowledgeable and always ready with romaine lettuce and carrots for us to feed to all the cute animals. We came on a recent hot day and our hike took almost 2 hours. We got to see Stanley the giraffe, some llamas, donkeys, zebras, yaks, bisons, & horses. The Malibu Wine Hike's ground is simply beautiful. We walked by the vineyard and even had a sample of some grapes! They also offered BBQ dinners, concerts, and there are also a few spots for weddings. When the hiked ended, we were shuttle to the wine tasting picnic area. There we had a reserved table just for our group and Kurt was STILL with us to serve us wine! We got to sample 5 different wines and my favorite was the rosé. There was a live band, dancing, a poke food truck and snacks/food for sale. You are also welcome to bring your own snacks and I'm so glad we brought cheese, fruits and crackers. The hike definitely worked up your appetite! Check the weather before you go! It was a hot day for us but glad we had hats, sunscreen, water, and closed toes shoes! Your shoes will get dusty and dirty but it will be worth it! FYI - Stanley loves straw hats so watch out! It was my birthday. There was a celebrity giraffe. There was wine. What more could you want? We did the morning hike with tour guide Kurt. He was energetic, entertaining, and knowledgeable. The hike is about 2/2.5 hours, so do bring plenty of water. It is not strenuous, but there are a few hills you need to be able to climb. You're in a mix of shade and sun, but primarily sun for the second half of the hike. After the hike, a shuttle bus takes you across the street to the wine tasting area. Tables are reserved for you, and Kurt magically turns into your wine tasting host. He does it all! Pack a picnic and enjoy!
