As newbies to the experience, you never know what to expect. But thanks to perfect weather and an equally enjoyable tour guide, our kayak and hiking excursion to the Secret Falls was amazing! For a young man, our guide Kanan was a wealth of knowledge about the history of the river and falls, as well as the legend and legacy of those who inhabited the area centuries ago. Kanan was just a kick to be around. My wife Lori, son Andrew and I truly enjoyed the day and would endorse Duke's (and Kanan) to anyone who may be considering a kayak trip to the falls. We would definitely do this again! The Mines Family Ladera Ranch, CA

We booked this through the Hyatts concierge, no, we were not staying there.... They welcome everyone! Very helpful, we booked it before we arrived since we heard it filled quickly and its the best one to 'Secret Falls'. We drove ourselves there, 40 min. From poipu, and they take you for a 1.5 mile shuttle to small harbor, dont think big boats...think many kayaks and some ' fern grotto' ferry tour boats.. The weekend has more traffic on the river, so it was perfect to go durring the week. Half day, we did the afternoon option. We kayaked up the river 2 miles, 12 boats or so, in a group...nice paddle. Enjoy the sun, wont see it once you start hiking through the gorgous rain forest. Evan was our guide, he was fantastic, full of more information than youd think you would want, and very entertaining! We hiked 1.5 miles m/L, easy hike, can be muddy if theres been much rain, but wow factor walking through that environment if you have never been. They send lunches for all and water, you eat at the falls. Our bunch got in to take pictures, but the water was cold so that was that..... The roosters have even found there way back there!

Our hotel consierge booked us with Duke's Kayak Adventures. There was the choice of 7:30 or 12:30. We chose the morning trip due to the windy afternoons. We were in a party of six. My wife and I each paired up with one of our daughters. This was the first time for our younger daughter and me. Our guide, Canaan, was laid-back with his instructions, maybe too laid back. Of course, we can't blame him for paddling into the bushes and capsizing while backpaddling. We can thank him for getting us back on the kayak and on with the journey. The trail to the Secret Waterfall is a one-mile easy to medium hike through tall grasses, rooted natural stair cases and fording the rushing river (rope guide was useful.) Lots of vegetation and stories about the sacred royalty grounds. The provided lunch was tasty, especially the fresh pineapple offered by another tour guide. The ride back down river was MUCH smoother. I'm not sure we had to meet at the Kamokila Hawaiian Village. We could have just met at the marina. Make sure you include a kayak trip during your visit to Kauai.
