Walking Tour Along the San Antonio Riverwalk And Around Downtown

Overview
From the first step of your guided adventure, I will share fascinating stories about the history, culture, architecture, and personalities of San Antonio, including the back story of the Riverwalk, a hotel that was towed through the city streets, another that had the rooms lifted up and stacked on top of each other, and I'll share what happened during the siege and battle of the Alamo in 1836. There's the Tower of the Americas, San Fernando Cathedral, our Lovelock Bridge, the most haunted hotel in San Antonio, the quaint Arneson River Theater, and Marriage Island, where over 300 couples tie the knot annually. Take your photo on the famous Selina Bridge. Hear how Johnny Cash, Rudolph Valentino, Carol Burnett, Phil Collins, Babe Ruth, Davy Crockett, and Queen Elizabeth II are all connected to the city. I'll gladly answer your questions, leaving you with many memorable stories to share...PLUS...it's a great way to get in your "steps" Remember...every step forward is a step back in time !

Tower Of The Americas
This is the symbol of the World's Fair, known as "Hemisfair" held in San Antonio in 1968. Over 6 million people visited the city to experience the World's Fair. 750' tall, it towers over the city skyline.

Arneson River Theater
This outdoor theater, constructed in 1940, is on the San Antonio Riverwalk and is the scene of river parades, entertainment....and movies. Also located here is the beautiful Rosita Bridge.

It is one of the oldest cathedrals in the United States and dates back to the early 1700's. Pope John Paul II visited the cathedral during his visit to San Antonio, and Jim Bowie was married there.

All three of us (mom, dad, and I) enjoyed the 3 hour walking tour with Stewart earlier today. He is an experienced and attentive tour guide with a lot of love for the city. He shared many stories about the architecture, history, and people that shaped it. Even though the weather was bitterly cold (~20*F), he didn't rush the experience. He took us through the main parts of the River Walk, explained how it was designed, and how people use it today. He also took pictures of us along the way. We saw places that we would have never found on our own - including being able to go inside the Menger hotel and see some of the grand architecture and courtyards in there + learn about some of the famous guests and events that took place there. We also heard some ghost stories, toured the Alamo, and saw some of the new public areas around the Cathedral. Overall, a great start to our first time in San Antonio.

We enjoyed the best morning on our walking tour with Stewart. I cannot think of one part that we didn’t love. Stewart is so knowledgeable and his binder of photos is incredible and adds so much to the tour. His enthusiasm for San Antonio is inspiring us to plan a return trip. Highly recommend! Thank you Stewart.

Stewart was a wonderful guide! He is so knowledgeable of the area, the history, the architecture and he shared his knowledge in such a fun and engaging way. The tour was 3 hours, but it honestly flew by because there was so much to see, to learn, to experience! Our tour group of 7 laughed, listened intently and were just awed at his verbal and visual presentation during the tour. He whetted our appetite for more of what San Antonio has to see. If you have the opportunity, book a walking tour with Stewart Horne. You will be glad you did! -Charlie & Amy Glover, visiting from Alabama
