We Shall Overcome: A Williamsburg Black History Experience

Overview
Come on to our history of black Americans tour presented by Junket!

We often learn the history and stories of heroes of the American Revolution and the early history of America. What isn't often covered in history classes and history books is the story of African Americans who were enslaved during this time. On this unique tour, we'll discover the stories of African Americans who lived and worked in Colonial Williamsburg. From the slaves buried in the graveyard of the Historic First Baptist Church, to the woman who left property to her freed black servants, you'll uncover the untold stories of the oppressed, and their path to freedom.

Just some quick notes from myself and husbandā€™s observation from today 7/27/23; the tour (We Shall Over Come- 2 Hours) was excellent. Vincent was an excellent tour guide. He was extremely knowledgeable about the Williamsburg-African -American history. He made sure to answer all additional questions that we had about some of the colonial homes, and the black population during the colonial time. He really spoke from a black perspective(even though he is caucasian-lol) and he did not hold back on how blacks were treated and how they may have felt (slaves) during that era in time. We had an amazing time in Williamsburg with our personal tour guide- Mr. Vincent. šŸ‘ Please make sure that the (Bell Ring Addition) extra add-on is offered during the initial purchase. Myself and my husband were looking forward to the ringing of the bell. I would recommend this tour wholeheartedly to anyone, but especially to the African American culture that need additional information about our history and roots in this country(USA), and those roots are rooted deeply in the fabric of this country (USA). Once, again thank you and have a fantastic day. Henry & Sherry Brown

This event should have been hosted by an African American. The narrator was not sensitive to the the walking speed of the group. He seemed like he wanted to get on to his next event. He would talk while walking forward and not turn to talk to the group. it was difficult to hear to hear him in between the stations where we stopped. We left the group early and had not done that on the other tours.
