I liked the views and experience but after doing a horseback riding experience in yellowstone and coming here I have a few tips to help the owner out for the non-regular horse riding folk. I‘m reasonably fit (20+ pullups) but with a 13 year old girl that’s 70lbs to give some perspective.
The initial jump on the saddle took a bit longer than I expected, which brings sunlight and heat for us mainlanders. Maybe there’s a way to speed that up. at yellowstone it probably took 10 minutes max to get a large group on the saddle with horses in a corral ready to go.
The horseback ride has a lot of hills. We figured there were hills on this but it’s definitely NOT switchbacks. This hike is straight up a dirt road with ruts that the horses definitely have to watch their footing on, which makes it a slower and more watchful/stressful experience for the animal and human. Then, you get to go DOWN the sameish trail. That’s cool the first couple hundred feet until it’s a job where you’re managing yours and the horses rear end.
If the trip stopped after the waterfall view part that would’ve been okay. But, we went up the hills to the waterfall view, down past the point where started to the main road, crossed the road, went to the coast, toon pictures, went back to where we parked, then went back up again and the horses were sweating and definitely angsty.
So what would I change?
Offer a half trip to either the beach or waterfall view or a casual experience with minimal hills
The up and down hills are tough for the animal and humans (our butts/back the next day!!). The slowness is okay but combined with up and down super steep slopes is simply a lot for novice riders.
Definitely writing this as supportive commentary since I know tourism is a tough business.
The views are definitely amazing, no doubt about that.

I am sorry that the ride was more difficult than you expected. There are many many reviews that talk about exactly what the trail ride is like. We do offer a shorter afternoon ride that does not go up the waterfalls where the trail is steeper, but just goes down to the ocean. There are many other rides on the island that are also shorter and on flat ground that would probably have been a ride you would have enjoyed a bit more. Hope you still had an amazing vacation.
