This was the highlight of my cape may visit- didn't expect to see whales, which we didn't- but there were abundant schools of dolphins in the distant- captain even Pointed out where and when individual Dolphins were in the vicinity of the boat. Maybe we were lucky but the sunset was magical as the sky changed hues of orange to red to purple. Wow!

The boat ride was pleasant but we only saw one cluster of dolphins and we were pretty far from them. I envisioned seeing them pop up randomly as we rode the boat. There were quite a few in one cluster. It took a long while for us to finally find the ONE whale in the area and then we were told that we are not allowed to get too close to it. There are some laws governing whale watching that we were not told about - all the boats in the area cut their engines and sort of floated at quite a distance from this whale. The fact remains that there are obviously not too many whales in the area so the whole attraction was this one whale that we tried watching for 15-20 minutes. However, it was really difficult to see as it was on different sides of the boat randomly and all the railings were crowded with people trying to catch a glimpse of it. Often the whale was WAY ahead of our boat, making it nearly impossible to see! If there are laws governing whale watching in NJ maybe it should not be offered in this situation. The dolphins were cute but again, we did not get too close to them, probably because of regulations again...

I read all the reviews and almost did not purchase tickets as I read that rarely are whales spotted. Decided to take my chances and bought 2 tickets. So glad we did - what a great time . we spotted several school of dolphins and watched a whale for over 60 mins -surfacing/diving - tail wacks and spouts !! What a great way to spend the afternoon. The captain was awesome with stories , history and tidbits on marine life. Do yourself a favor and take the chance !!
