My sister and I were lucky enough to get a last-minute booking on the Sunset Whale Watching Cruise with San Juan Safaris. The water was like glass, the sky was a magical combination of blue skies fading into a beautiful sunset and the highlight of the trip was, of course, the sighting of a family of Orcas that were in "rest" mode so were arcing ever so gently out of the water as they made their way along the Strait. Captain Mike got us close to the whales without getting too close or spooking them and Lauren, our wildlife expert, was extremely knowledgeable and a pleasure to spend the day with. We highly recommend the Sunset Cruise and will always come back to San Juan Safaris.

Yeay, we did finally meet Willy (orca whale) & his family!! Our Captain said we were so lucky we could see them from that close. Before, I was a bit sad, because the captain said that our possibility to see the orca whale was not that big, because it was end of Aug and also based on the weather and everything. But the captain made more efforts to bring us further to the area where he got some information some orcas appeared; and not too long after we arrived, there they came Willy & his family!! The naturalist - she explained every single detail about the orca also any other questions that we asked. Both the captain and the naturalist are great!! It's all worth everything we've done: left home at 3:30 am, drove for 2 hours to Anacortes (from Snoqualmie, WA) plus 2 more hours to get arrive in Friday Harbor by ferry, about 3 hours on the vessel went around both American & Canadian islands to follow where the orcas travel to. Woohoo! That was so satisfying! Will do take some tour with San Juan Safaris again some time. *we didn't take some pictures of the orcas we saw but we did take some videos, too bad I can't share the video here
