Whiskey Tasting Experience in Nashville

Overview
A quick stop from downtown Nashville to Marathon Village takes visitors back in time as they step inside Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery. Digging into the past didn’t turn up skeletons and scandals for brothers Andy and Charlie Nelson; more like sour mash and stills. After discovering their triple great grandfather was one of the most successful whiskey distillers in pre-prohibition America, the brothers vowed to revive the since-forgotten family business.
If you’re into stories about sunken ships and lost gold, a woman running a distillery before women could vote and the rebirth of a business after 100 years, you’ll be sucked into the guided tasting experiences offered at Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery. Sample the spirit based on the recipe for Tennessee’s oldest whiskey, two modern-day, high-rye bourbons and finish your tasting with a caramel pecan liqueur. Commemorate your visit with a peek in the gift and bottle shop where spirits, apparel, and barware are available for purchase.

What a great place to visit. We found out about this place whilst on the hop on hop off bus. The moment we entered we were greeted warmly by friendly staff who could not have been more helpful. The staff are also very knowledgeable and helped us to maximise our tasting experience. The distilled product is superb and so much better than Jack Daniels. Such a shame the distillery has limited production and does not export. I would definitely drink Nelsons if it was available in the UK.

Whiskey was wonderful loved learning about the history of how it was organized from the beginning to the end. Who knew you chewed whiskey. The guy who told the story was my favorite for made it quite funny and kept everyone’s attention. Loved it thank you.

As with many distillery experiences, it is the story of the founders and later owners of this enterprise that is the most interesting part of the trip to this distillery. After providing the highly unlikely true story, our tour guide Darren led us through the distilling process which was followed by the tasting, which was very rewarding. We came out of the shop with liquid Christmas gifts as well as gifts for ourselves. An excellent distillery experience that is recommended to ALL who have an interest whiskey and distilling.
