Overview

This tour is a great way to experience some amazing sights of Alaska, wildlife, glaciers, and a rainforest within a half day. Your guide will pick you up from downtown Anchorage and drive along Turnagain Arm, which boasts abundant scenic views and Alaskan wildlife within easy access to the city of Anchorage. Along the way, you will learn many interesting facts about this area’s history, animals, and ecosystem from your experienced guide.
You will visit the Wildlife Conservation Center, located at the end of Turnagain Arm and surrounded by mountain peaks. You will have the chance to explore on your own and visit the many animals in the center, including brown bears, wolfs, caribou, moose, and the endangered Woodland Bison.
After the Wildlife Center, you will have the opportunity to see the majestic Portage Valley, a few miles drive from the Wildlife Center. Here you will enjoy several amazing viewpoints of glaciers, lakes, rivers, and a unique rainforest.

What To Expect

Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center

View Alaska's most famous animals up close in a natural setting. During this visit, you'll get great pictures of real live bears, moose, musk-ox, caribou, bison, and more! The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC) is a sanctuary dedicated to preserving Alaska’s wildlife through conservation, research, education and quality animal care. AWCC has provided care for hundreds of displaced animals because visitors like you have made critical contributions in the form of admission fees, donations, memberships, and gift shop purchases.

Chugach State Park

Beluga Point: Popular photo stop with panoramic views of Turnagain Arm, with possible opportunities to see Dall sheep and Beluga whales. Timing is everything hopefully you will see both!

Portage Glacier

Portage Valley: You will see Explorer Glacier, Middle Glacier, Byron Glacier and Take a Walk through a Rainforest. Next grab a snack or meal to enjoy on your ride back to Anchorage at Portage Day Lodge.

Our guide Ben was absolutely wonderful! We had such a great time and I would highly recommend their tours. Ben made sure everyone got to see what they wanted, including a quick stop at Aleyeska Ski Resort. The scenery was breathtaking and Ben was very knowledgeable about the wildlife and Alaskan culture. He was even nice enough to take our pictures and send them to me when my phone died. I can’t wait to go back and use this operator again. I hope we get Ben!

Definitely join this tour! Had one day in Anchorage to explore while my husband was working so I joined the tour. Ben was great and very considerate!! He told us all about the area and showed us everything we needed to see! We were able to see glaciers and goats, mountains and moose, water and wood bison and much much more! I would definitely recommend joining this tour! The conservation center is a must see for all the animals and scenery! We had extra time so Ben even made a pit stop so we could ride the tram! Can’t wait to come back in the summer and do it all again!

Ben was excellent! He showed us places that were scheduled for our tour but also went above and beyond. As a matter of fact, he was so informative that we also took the city tour with Alaska Finest Tours. Hanging with Ben was like meeting a friend. He made sure we saw wildlife such as dall sheep and moose while driving to the different places on the tour. I highly recommend this company.
