We had a great time cruising around chasing after a couple of humpback whales to see them spouting and their tails coming out of the water. Saw a couple of black bear on the bank and lots of seals and sea lions on an island. Knowledgeable and friendly captain with only 5 of us on the boat trip and hot chocolate and snacks with a warm cabin if needed made it a great trip. Book directly without going through the cruise excursion packages to get a smaller group experience like this one for less money. Restroom on board the boat if needed.

Contacted this tour prior to arrival in Ketchikan asking about availability for an 11:00 trip. We were unable to pay in advance due to non secure ship WiFi. I then emailed them stating our arrival and departure times, then called to confirm. I was told to meet at boat dock at 11 across from our ships berth location. 11:05 rolls around and I get a call from boat owner that he’s unable to take us out because we were his only customers. So, because we didn’t have the ability to pay in advance he chose not to take us and is waiting to sell more space on his 2 pm trip. Keep in mind, previous reviews state that there were times when there were only a couple of people on board. Apparently $250 wasn’t good enough. So maybe paying in advance would have made a difference. If you choose this tour, book before you get on ship if you want to go.

We arranged this tour via Viator 36 hours before arriving into Ketchikan. Jesse texted us with available times within minutes of booking and we managed to get everything arranged before we lost cell service after leaving Skagway. When we arrived into Ketchikan, Jesse sent his deck hand to come and collect us and take us to his boat. As it turned out we were the only ones booked for our timeslot so Jesse basically gave us free run of the boat, including sitting up with him which we did. Jesse gave us a great background to Ketchikan and the surrounding areas as he took us around looking for seals, bald eagles and of course whales. Unfortunately we didn't get to see any whales, but we did get to see seals, lots of bald eagles and salmon jumping out of the water, preparing themselves for the upcoming spawning season. Although we didn't get to see whales, Jesse made the tour really interesting and we would happily take his tour again on our next visit to Ketchikan. On top of that he also gave us some excellent advice on where to eat and places to see in town after the tour.
