Overview

Your experience is very unique because it is on a specifically designed whale watching boat. There will be only up to 13 guests aboard so there is plenty of room inside and out for everyone. Your experienced captain is a local resident with a great deal of knowledge of the wildlife and area, and lots of good stories to tell. Our tour length ensures that you have plenty of time to relax and enjoy the beauty of our area and the incredible wildlife. We’ve been sharing our part of the world with enthusiastic guests for over 25 years and would love to share it with you, too.

What To Expect

Hoonah

We will meet you at the Excursions Hub and transport you in our van to Hoonah (a 5-minute drive), where you will board the boat for your whale and wildlife tour. After returning to the harbor, you'll be met by the van and driven back to Icy Strait Point.

Awesome family business. Our captain was both knowledgeable and personable, and the tour was small enough that I could always find a place to look out. We had a blast despite pouring rain, and in addition to seeing the humpback whales we expected, our captain spotted a pod of transient orcas from a distance and zipped us over. They came within ten feet of us! We had an amazing experience, and I would go again.

Casey took us out that day from Radiance of the Seas. Mom picked us up at the port. Seven of us and another few people in the 13 passenger boat. This was first whale watch trip for two granddaughters and they had a ball. Cruise ship tour saw nothing; we had dozens of whales around us and even under us, with as many as 7 visible at one time. We have been on at least six whale watching tours and this was by far the best. Great family operation.

We had an absolutely wonderful time on our tour with Glacier Wind Charters! It was the highlight of our trip to Alaska. We booked this excursion outside of the cruise ship offerings and I’m SO glad we did. It was hands-down the best excursion we took the entire cruise and way better than anything we booked through the cruise line. You can tell immediately how much this family cares about their home in Hoonah and taking care of their customers. They are very knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife and they were so friendly. They went above and beyond to give us an amazing tour!! We saw a ton of orca, humpbacks and sea otters. Don’t hesitate to book this tour if you are visiting Hoonah!
