Ye Olde Tavern Tours

Overview
Ye Olde Tavern Tours offers historic tavern tours in Boston because we believe beer makes history even better! On our guided walking tours, you'll see ten sites on the Freedom Trail and grab a beer at some of the nation's most historic taverns. When visiting Boston, there are certain historic sites and stories you shouldn't leave without seeing and hearing, and you'll do all of that on our tour, all while drinking beer!

Led by expertly-trained historians (our guides have a minimum of a Bachelor's in History and many of them are currently working towards or have a PhD in History), you'll learn about the drunken and revolutionary history of Boston in the eighteenth century.

We cap each tour at 12 people to provide an intimate and accessible experience. Our tours are the most fun and social way to experience Boston!

We are a small, local business and we greatly appreciate your support!

To (mis)quote Longfellow's poem... "Listen, my children, and you shall hear why Boston's history goes well with beer." My friend and I were in Boston for a few days and this walking tour was the highlight of our trip. We learned MANY new, fun, and interesting things while enjoying a nice sampling of local drinks along the way (loved the Downeast Cider). The walking was perfectly-paced and the drinks were perfectly-spaced. Our guide, Brooke, was extremely knowledgeable and engagingly passionate about her work (she's also a Ph.D., the founder of Ye Olde Tavern Tours, and a soon-to-be-published author). Brooke encouraged us to ask questions and she made the history "come alive" by adding helpful visuals (on a tablet) to her wonderful stories. Thanks for a worthwhile experience, Brooke. HUZZAH!

You are given a tour of historic downtown Boston by a local historian. Our tour guide was Brooke, a PhD in History from Boston College. Brooke provided interesting information about the area as we walked around and then discussed unusual info about the three taverns that we visited. The tour was informative and enjoyable. It truly didn't feel like a tour. It felt more like I was walking with a very smart friend and occasionally stopping for drink. I strongly recommend this tour...even if you don't like beer. ( The cider was delicious.)

Our tour guide Brooke is a bonafide history PhD and it shows, even more than that she is entertaining, personable and has designed a tour that is tight and captivating. While the tour doesn't cover the entire Freedom Trail, after exploring some more I can vouch for it covering most of the best stuff. Brooke's tour differentiates itself with beer but don't think that is the main draw here, a non-drinker would surely enjoy this tour as well. Just because ales are flowing doesn't mean that this isn't an excellent historical tour in it's own right. Brooke knows her stuff down to tiny tiny details and can give you a real sense of our revolutionary fathers, and she does so in a manner that is lively and entertaining. If her enthusiasm for the subject matter is faked, she might be the world's greatest actress. So yes it's a tour with beer, but no it's not a beer tour. (That being said she does an excellent job of describing the regional selections you get to choose from: and they are quite good). The tour ends up in the Fanueil hall area which is perfect to keep drinking or transition to shopping. Our party's only complaint is we could've easily spent another couple hours hearing from Brooke, but we definitely got our money's worth and then some.
