Shem Creek Park

Historic Shem Creek is one of the most iconic spots in Charleston and is known for its shrimp boats, seafood restaurants and wildlife. Bottlenose dolphins frequent this creek and will often breach just feet away from your kayak. In the summers, manatees call Shem Creek home and loggerhead turtles will occasionally pop above the surface. As you pass by the shrimp boats and oyster-lined marshes, you see Charleston Harbor and the Holy City Skyline. The Netflix show Outer Banks films on Shem Creek and your guide can show you familiar places where Pogues hang out!

It was an amazing experience. The guides were so great and helpful to this first-timer. Lily and Jackie were Awesome guides. Definitely recommend them and can’t wait to do it again!!

We enjoyed our kayak trip down Shem Creek learning about the low country eco system. Our guide was friendly and knowledgable. I was traveling with my kids 13 & 11 and it was a great way to be active in nature while learning history at the same time!

We had an EXCELLENT experience. Every part of our Kayak adventure was wonderful from the moment we checked in. We met Tate and Gracie and were warmly welcomed and oriented to the space and given an overview of the day. When it was time to learn about the kayaks and oars, Gracie gave an informative session for beginners but also included those who have kayaked in the past. She was helpful, supportive and kind. Getting set up was easy, quick and seamless. They were patient, supportive and fun! The tour itself was one of my favorite experiences with my children. My boys are 13 and 10, so my older son was able to kayak alone and my younger son and I were in a kayak together. We learned about the low country, the wild life and so much about kayaking in the river and in the ocean. We had an excellent time together and in the group learning from one another. Gracie paced the group so well balancing younger kayakers and older kayakers with a perfect amount of information. The day was beautiful, the equipment was top notch and the instruction was excellent. We are so thankful for this experience and we look forward to more adventures with Coastal Expeditions in the future!

Thank you for your support and kind words about our Kiawah outpost. It is fairly new and we are so excited to share it with everyone. Gracie and Tayt are fantastic Naturalists, and Kiawah has lots of beauty and history to offer. We hope you come adventure with us again soon!
