Our trip was better than good, an 11 on a 10 scale...because of our guide’s expertise, the equipment, the scenery and most of all...the people on the trip with us.
The adversity we encountered on our trip made it even more special for us. Hail, heavy rain, mudslides, fog...nothing got in our way of an incredible adventure.
A few tips:
- take a throwaway air mattress and a pillow for sleeping...you will be glad you did
- elevation change means temperature change...60F in the valley means 40F at Tioga pass
- the “4 mile” hike measured nearly 10 miles on our pedometer...even though downhill, the rocky portions make it strenuous...it was beautiful and worth it, but we were late getting back..so sorry to our fireball gang for that!
- you can party on the bus...yes they have a license for this...a few adult beverages + some great tunes makes a long bus ride a blast!
Our guide was Nicole. She was energetic, smart, kind and fun. She steered us clear of weather issues and made every hour fun and productive for us.
The camping equipment was great. Food was great. The bus was comfortable. Having a trailer for storage meant your stuff was secure.
Everyone knows of the scenery. It was spectacular. The only places that compare for me are the Grand Canyon, Sedona and Waimea Canyon In Kauai.
Our group included people from all over the world...London, Switzerland, Germany, Ireland, Spain, Australia, Chicago, Portland and us, from downstate Illinois.
Mark and Alex, Martin and Helen, Olly and Nor, Willy, Sabrina, Mariella, Tammara, Joe and Nicole...thank you for sharing fireball with us and making our 10 year anniversary trip one we will never forget The scenery may fade from our minds but our memories of you will not!
