Your experience begins at Stop #40 (M&M's World Stop on 7th Ave & 48th St) to discover the iconic sights of the Big Apple after dark. The tour lasts for two hours, departing every 20-30 minutes between 7:00pm and 9:00pm. Night tour is not a hop-on hop-off.

As part of our explorer pass, we booked tickets on the Big Bus. We chatted with the tour guide before the tour started. He told us where the best seats were! The tour was great. The guide was not political, crude or controversial. We took a different route than I had done on a similar tour years ago, so it was neat to see neighborhoods I had never before. The driver did a great job of avoiding trees that were low hanging so they would not hit the passengers on the top of the bus. Going at seven we were able to watch the sky change with the sunset and take amazing pictures of the skyline. Everyone seemed pleased because people were tipping as they left.

This night tour was a last minute idea for us on our last night in the city. We made it just in time to board a bus that was about to leave so there was no wait. The tour took us through parts of the city that we hadn't seen on foot. We even went over the Manhattan Bridge to Brooklyn and back which gave a nice view of the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan skyline. Too bad we were moving too fast for good pictures! Each passenger is provided ear buds to hear the guide - ours was pretty static-y and hard to make out at times. Our guide was knowledgeable about the area and took time to see if we had questions. The worst part was that we had to walk through Times Square to get to the bus stop.

We decided to do a night tour last minute as it was our first trip to NYC. We were thinking about taking the Staten Island Ferry because it was free, but it was a tad too cold to be out on the water. I saw ads for the Big Bus Tour NYC in our Hotel so I called to inquire when trips depart. Turns out this company is one of the only "night tours" that takes place at night when the city is lit up and not at "dusk." We bought tickets on the street ($100 for both of us total) and hopped right on at the M&Ms store. We got great seats on the top of the bus so we were able to get some really nice pictures of the city skyline. It was a bit cold.. but that was our fault for sitting on top of the bus. The tour guide was pretty funny and we learned a lot about the various districts the bus went through. I previously did a "hop on - hop off" tour in DC and wouldn't recommend it. The buses take forever to pick you up. However, these night tours are great.
