I recommend buying the Muir woods+Alcatraz combo ticket for $150. You will need 2 full days(at least) to visit everything. Be prepared to walk a lot these 2 days. I found the red bus tour informative ad convenient. You will not have to drive around on the crowded streets. The employees are very experienced, helpful and friendly and will give yo good recommendations about restaurants and shopping

We had a 2 day ticket for the big bus and we enjoyed it a lot. The weather was very cold and extremely windy. Our tourguide was Paul, and a great guy Paul is. Very informative and there is a lot of humor in the way Paul tells his stories. Should be great to book him as a private guide to explore the city.

My son and I added this tour along with an Alcatraz ticket. We loved the bus tour. Really fun seeing the city and hoping off at desired locations. The trip across the Golden Gate bridge was amazing--what an awesome vantage point-atop a double decker bus. We opted to do the night tour across the bay bridge into Treasure Island. The views of the city across from treasure Island-coupled with the setting sun was an experience not soon forgotten. The night tour guide name was Anthony and Tony--he was so good, and engaging. His energy level was epic!...This guy is seriously talented. I have done live tours before, and he was by far the best guide I have ever come across. I would highly recommend this tour service. And if you can--make sure you get put on Anthony's bus!
