This was my 5th or 6th ATV tour over the last few years, but my first in Arizona. I'd done desert trails in Vegas, sand dunes in Dubai... but I was so pleased that this one offered me something slightly different.
We started off with a group of around 16 on ATVs, and the first thing they did was send people around a man-made obstacle course as a competency test - followed by a test ride around some trails. After this, about half of the field were encouraged to go in UTVs instead, as it was clear they didn't have the level of control required for the trails to come. And this was a sensible decision, because there were some very technical 4-wheel drive sections where we went up and down some steep inclines. I really enjoyed those sections because I'd not experienced those kind of hills before.
The rest of the tour was typical desert trails, although we crossed a couple of streams and stopped for 10 minutes to have a lesson on how to prepare and eat a cactus. All in all, a very well rounded and enjoyable tour - and one that didn't go too quickly or too slowly. I'd be happy to come back and do it again!
