The train ride to the Grand Canyon started at 9:30 am and took about 2 1/4 hours each way. Due to COVID restrictions they served a boxed breakfast of yogurt, a muffin, and cheese stick and fresh made coffee, tea, or hot chocolate in the morning and a nice boxed snack box was waiting when we boarded to return. Beer and mixed alcohol drinks were available for extra charge. The actual train ride was fairly smooth and relaxing and the service from the passenger host in our car was great. Scenic high desert and if you watched you could find wildlife once in a while. At the Grand Canyon we had about 3 1/2 hours on our own before re-boarding for the trip back. Again, Due to COVID there was only 1 place to eat and even some visitor centers were closed. If you do this in the winter like we did be sure to find out if there has been snowfall in the days before your trip. If so, the paved rim trail is probably packed ice and very slippery and you will fall! After a snowfall your first stop at the canyon should be at the gift shop next to the ice cream snack bar to get some slip on shoe crampons so you can walk the paved rim trail. Take water and snacks and dress very warm in winter. If it is sunny and 30 degrees plus without wind you will definitely enjoy it! Williams AZ is pretty much closed in January and early February 2021 due to very few tourists and COVID. Many restaurants were closed and the others served from the bar area only. Quite a few stores were closed also. So if you go in winter be aware!

Rode in the luxury parlor, such nice views, lots of forest. You will only see a small portion of the grand canyon from the train... we were outside and the crew pointed it out, just a quick glimpse. The whole trip was fun, and informative. The robbery show was cool to watch, especially when they really do ride up on horses. There is a full bar, and snacks. Everyone was asked to keep their masks on and was spaced far away from others due to covid.
