This historic railway makes its daily round-trip journey from the tiny town of Williams, and travels 65 miles to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. The slow speed of the train allows the passengers to enjoy the scenery outside. The train and the Station were very clean, and masks were required throughout the trip.
We arrived at the Station an hour before departure. That gave us time to find parking, browse around in the gift shop for unique gifts and Christmas Ornaments, plus witness a silly, but cute, Wild- West Show before boarding. En route, there was a guitarist and singer for live entertainment, and a faux robbery with bandits on horseback, who stopped the train and “robbed” us on the return journey.
It was a good way for tourists like us to visit the Grand Canyon from Flagstaff, and leave the “driving” to someone else. At the Grand Canyon itself, we had ample time to hike the “Trail of Time” trail and have a quick lunch before returning to our seats on the train.
The day’s outing was worth our time and the money we spent on it. We had a lot of fun, and we recommend it to other travelers who love historic trains such as these.
