This was a scenic and easy way to travel to the Grand Canyon. We so enjoyed our trip to Williams and thought the town was charming and interesting. The train was clean, the ticket process and boarding very easy, the cabin attendant personable, the onboard entertainment fun. However, we were concerned that mask-wearing was not enforced and the three people sitting across from us did not wear theirs for more than a few minutes at the beginning of the train ride (and one of them had a terrible cough). This was our first trip in almost two years and we had visited several places before we got to Williams and felt comfortable and safe everywhere else. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable day and we were glad to have had the experience of traveling to the majestic Grand Canyon by train.

What a fun day it was! It was pouring down that morning and we ended up buying a couple of raincoats in the gift shop. Before the train leaves they are doing a Wild West shootout; it was fun, hokey and the actors were very hard to understand. Boarding the train was quick and easy; we had splurged on the dome car and loved it. Madison, our tour guide was funny and knowledgeable and we enjoyed listening to her. She was also an excellent bar tender. They served some snacks (yoghurt and muffins) on the to the GC and cheese, salami and crackers coming back. Very nice. During our trip the sun came came out and we were able to enjoy this magnificent canyon...but the rain came back in for of a thunderstorm and it was quite an awesome experience. They have some entertainment in form of guitar players coming through each car and we enjoyed singing along. The people in our car were super fun and everyone was talking to others. We had a 'train robbery' (the same actors that do the shootout in the morning; we could do without this. Parking at the depot is plenty and free. We think it was money well spent (yes, the dome car is expensive!) and it was on our bucket list.

After encountering freezing rain & sleet when driving to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, we turned around and decided to try the train ride the next day. We booked mid level seats and enjoyed the 2 hour+ ride up and the drop-off was right near the Hotel & trail along the rim. We had about 3 hrs to explore, and the video theater that showed history & overview was closed. There was also still snow & ice (near noon) on several of the walkways, and we were very surprised that they hadn't been shoveled for safety sake! We took photos, walked the rim and got 2 brats for lunch with no seating except a few park benches (which were full). The ride home seemed forever, but it was an OK experience. They had a musician playing guitar each way, and the train was robbed on the way back by bandits (with a hat for $$ or valuables) which thrilled the kids onboard. Staff on the train was helpful & fun and both the engineer & fire-person were female & running the train! The only one in USA with both ladies in the engine compartment!
