The driver/tour guide was excellent. The driver was knowledgeable about the tour and takes his time explaining in detail.

All of the Hawaiian Islands are full of color and beauty, so this is a "different" type of excursion. We booked this tour through NCL Pride of America. We were picked up and shuttled to the Volcanoes Nat'l Park, for spectacular views from the rims of the Kilauea Volcano. We first stopped at the info center, then onward to an overlook, where we passed a volcanic steam vent. It's hard to imagine what a lava field looks like until you actually see one. Yet, in the midst of all of that lava stone grows beautiful hibiscus. Really enjoyed the views.

This tour was supposed to be with another family but they had to cancel … so we got a private tour! The tour guide was Warren and he was both very knowledgeable and accommodating. You could tell that he was proud to share his island with us. The stops were well planned and there was no pressure to stop (it was also always clear when we were expected back). Warren communicated with us about what was coming up and whether we were interested in stopping. Yes … there were a couple of places where they sold stuff but so what? I also did not expect Warren to give us tours at all these places which were rather self-explanatory (e.g. Akatsuka Orchid Gardens). He took a lot of time to walk us around and explain things where it really mattered. Warren even took us to an extra stop close to the latest fissures at Leilani Estates. It was amazing seeing that as close as we were allowed to go (and yes … it was also sad realizing that a lot of people lost their homes there). I saw another review on here about Warren and have to say that our experience was entirely different. Maybe things changed between May and October? Yes … he offered the bowling alley to us as well but then decided (and recommended) The Rim in the Volcano House inside the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
