Hoonah Whale Tours is a family owned whale watching company that operates out of Hoonah, AK. When taking this tour you will be on a private 6 passenger boat tour that goes out into Icy Strait. During the tour will you get the chance to see all sorts of Southeast Alaska wildlife, including bald eagles, sea lions, sea otters, sometimes brown bear and orcas and of course humpback whales! Our tours last between 3 and 3.5 hours and we guarantee you'll see whales or you money back. The boat is a 6 passenger catamaran, with a walk around deck, heated cabin, and a bathroom on board. We also provide snacks and beverages.

We had a great whale watching tour with Joardan! So happy we found this company. We saw a lot of whales and other wildlife. Joardan was a very friendly, knowledgeable and tactful guide, happy to point out wildlife and share his knowledge, but at the same time he gave us some space whenever we just wanted to observe. Also, Joardan offered us coffee and hot cocoa and homemade muffins - thank you, Joardan! Very comfortable experience and a highlight of our trip. The boat was beautiful, clean and stable and had a bathroom. The price was very reasonable, too. In terms of the excursion time, Hoonah Whale Tours created a special excursion time when we called them after we didn't see the time that was convenient for us on their online calendar. We are very grateful for this as well. Truly a gem. Since this boat only fits 6 guests, it was a really personal experience, just what we wanted. Our cruise ship had other whale watching tours they were promoting - bigger boats with more people squeezed in. I am glad we looked outside the box and found Hoonah Whale Tours on our own through TripAdvisor for a more personal experience.

I cannot say enough about how amazing this tour was. Joardan was an excellent captain and guide. We saw our first whale within a few minutes of leaving the harbor. And he found us several more throughout the tour including a group of three swimming together and one actively feeding. We also stopped to enjoy the cutest sea otter. Joardan had great stories about his life as a guide and a fisherman. He also showed us a picture of his grandfather's Alaska state record halibut along with other family fishing/crabbing pictures, the ocean is definitely in his blood. We ended the tour with muffins freshly baked by his wife with wild blueberries that he handpicked. If you are looking for an affordable yet personalized whale watching tour Joardan is your guy.

For anyone either visiting Hoonah or stopping at Icy Straights you should make Hoonah Whale Tours a must. We had the good fortune to spend five days in Hoonah at my sister’s home and the opportunity for the family to spend an afternoon with Jordan was one of the highlights of the trip. We saw many humpbacks and the opportunity to see a cow with her calf, orcas hunting in a pair and an orca breach, sea lions and sea otters having fun and a grizzly on the beach. Our granddaughters loved the hot chocolate and snacks and the adults enjoyed the muffins. We have been on many tours but the opportunity to spend the afternoon with Jordan, who is a member of a local fishing family was memorable.
