Nestled among the Little San Bernardino Mountains in the Sand to Snow National Monument, the desert oasis at Big Morongo Canyon is one of the 10 largest cottonwood and willow riparian habitats in California. The upstream end of the canyon lies in the Mojave Desert, while its downstream portion opens into the Colorado Desert. There are numerous trails to walk and hike, including a wheelchair-accessible boardwalk through the marsh and riparian habitats. The air temperatures were not super cold but with the wind chill while the Hummer was going, at this time of year, was pretty cold. We had some thin blankets, but noticed in the afternoon group several people were offered coats, which would have been nice to have in the morning. I was not happy because the advertisements said it was a 5 hour tour for $179.00. When we wanted to be picked up in Palm Desert, they added an additional $20.00. We then found out that the actual tour in the Hummer was only 3 hours, the 5 hours was with pick up and drop off in Palm Desert. I felt like the advertising was a bit deceptive. Our trip only made 2 stops where we got out of the Hummer and one where the driver got out and took pictures of people sitting in the vehicle. I felt rushed at both locations so we could hurry and get back for an afternoon tour. I thought that with "5" hours we would have a bit of time to explore the sites there. Our off roading in the Hummer was riding on one flat dirt road for about 15-20 minutes. I felt like it was a lot of money and not up to what they advertised.

Thanks for pointing out the colder temperatures. We do provide blankets and coats during these colder days. But, you were on one of the last open air trips that we make into the park as these are on a winter hiatus from November 1st to the end of February now. The advertising on TripAdvisor site accurately shows that your tour was in fact 5 hours long. Longer estimates are made based upon whether or not you decided on a more distant location for your pickup. We also do not advertise that we off road in the park. It is strictly forbidden to do this and we do take the four-wheel drive only dirt roads the park does maintain. Your trip starting from the Morton's Steakhouse included a van shuttle that comfortably takes guests from this distant location up to where the open air Hummer portion begins. This is clearly stated in the advertising and it would be a real shock to the system to have to travel on the freeway in an open air Hummer on a chilly day. The tour to the park from Morton's allows guests to learn about the history of the Palm Desert area without the discomfort of being blasted by 70 mph winds. I'm sorry this was not what you were expecting but I assure you that traveling in an open air vehicle the entire length of the trip would have been a major discomfort. We also provided the shuttle at a very good rate. You mentioned that it's $20 extra to take our shuttle to the departure location. This compares very well with an Uber which would have been several times higher and we provide this service at a real discount to allow everyone who is in Palm Springs or even in Palm Desert a chance to be able to join the tour.

Tom was a great tour guide! Super fun riding in the open air. The stops where we were able to get out and walk were easy hikes with beautiful views. Really love how our guide had a fun music playlist as we entered and left the park. Memorable experience and would highly recommend this type of tour for your first time at Joshua Tree.
