What an experience. Captain Gabe guided us into some unbelievable sightings. For first timers like us it was mind blowing. But to see that the crew were just as excited about what they were able to spot, made it doubly so. We had Drew on board as naturalist and he did a great job of setting our expectations, telling us what to look for and helping to explain cetacean habits. As novices, we had expected whale watching to be seeing whales breech but once Drew walked through their behavior things were much clearer. We went out on the afternoon run, it was supposed to be 18 max but there were only about 9-10 + crew of 3 and the only thing that I wished I knew was that we could bring some beer on bard with us. Cap'n Gabe took us on a great ride and we had fun bouncing on the wake of other craft - speaking of which Thank goodness we did not go on the MaxTourist double deckers which may have had about 30-50 people on them all struggling to get deck space. Either Gabe had a blessed day or he just knows how to work it when his boss was on the boat with us, but on this day, everything we asked for sort of happened. We wanted to see seals and eagles and lo and behold an eagle streaked down and stole a fish from a seal in front of us! We must have seen at least 20 whales spouting and flashing their flukes and when all the other boats were crowding round that sight (Kudos to all the captains and tour boats - they really take care not to interfere with the beasties and to also allow all other craft to get a view- well coordinated)- anyway our captain suddenly gently veers off and we think we are heading back. One of the couples on our tour, experienced whale watchers asked if they had seen any bubble netting (National Geographic stuff man) and would you believer it, we were guided to within a dozen feet of a pod that we had private viewing of and they executed a bubble net. Forget the beer man, I was drunk with sheer amazement. My advice.Put the camera away and just drink it in. You can buy better pictures or get them on line but you cannot duplicate the sheer experience of being in the same space as these gentle giants.

Fabulous!!!! We saw humpback whales, eagles, a pod of orcas, sea lion colony... Gabe & Regina (no more Harv or Marv) were excellent. Exceeded expectations!

My husband and I took a whale watching tour at the end of June with Gabe. The weather was drizzly and the sky overcast. We were bummed. Gabe brought us onto his boat with contagious enthusiasm. He took our photos with a ridiculous plastic whale. Gabe and five passengers soared through the bay out into the ocean. He had us looking for spouts. Gabe had a plan and he knew where he planned on going. His experience pointed us to an opportunity we never dreamed of. The ride seemed long but we had the time. After many dips and waves, Gabe brought us into a long bay littered with whale watchers and personal craft. We saw more spouts. He passed them by and continued to steer us deeper into the bay. Eventually, Gabe had communication with one of his whale watching tour buddies. I was pleased to see that he coordinated with others and shared his insights as well. Then, it happened.....We saw the spouts, then the bodies of humpbacks. We had found the group that Gabe had been tracking. He shared with us the sound they make before emerging from the water. The sound came and up came several humpback whales, all flailing in a coordinated frenzy. It was a bubble net!! We followed the whales down the bay and observed this miracle several more times. I snapped as many photos as I could hoping to get a good one. Unfortunately, my camera exposure was set too high. My photographic record of this amazing event was greatly diminished by my ineptitude regarding my point and shoot camera. Elated that we had observed such an event as a bubble net, but saddened by the fact that I had only a dim record of it, I asked another passenger, (a friend of Gabes) if he would be willing to share one of his photos from this tour. Brian was quite willing to email me a digital image of our memorable experience. When I got the image, It was such a perfect reminder of a perfect whale watching adventure. When our time ran up, we again rode the waves back to the dock with Gabe at the helm. What an adventure-one that I will never forget. I would highly recommend Harv and Marv's for whale watching.
