Like Aialik, Holgate Glacier is surrounded by steep cliffs, dense forests and towering mountain peaks. Visitors may see spectacular calving events as ice chunks break and crash into the ocean. Though rare, black bears have been sighted on the beaches in Holgate arm.

Because of weather we almost cancelled our trip, so glad we didn’t. The conditions weren’t perfect but our captain on the Orca Explorer did a wonderful job and got us into the bay to see wonderful waterfalls and Alalik glacier, wow wow wow! She also was very informative along the way and we got to see lots of birds along with orca and humpback whales. With the weather there were some people who didn’t handle the seas very good, but the crew were amazingly kind and took really good care of them. Highly recommend!

Great experience. Saw Fin Whales, Humpback Whales, Porpoise, Harbor Seals, Sea Lions, Sea Otters, tons of sea birds, glacier calving. The 6 hour tour was perfect length for our group of 7 ranging from 26 to 62. The staff were great!

This was a wonderful experience! The Captain/guide was willing to adjust the tour due to the conditions and the wildlife available. Seeing the humpback whales was a highlight! The scenery was spectacular! Lunch was delicious as was the snack of chocolate chip cookies. It was well organized. Great crew! Would definitely recommend!
