Welcoming guests to Kauai since 2007, Luau Kalamaku is Hawaii's only luau show performed “in-the-round,” offering optimal views of the stage. Witness the unearthing of the pig from the traditional imu (underground oven) and enjoy a hula lesson. A craft fair featuring unique items by local artisans awaits on the sprawling lawn. Feast on a delicious buffet of local and familiar favorites and enjoy a Mai Tai from the open bar. The main show tells the amazing story of the ancient Hawaiian legend of Kalamaku “child of the new land." Through laughter, fear, seduction and fire, a new legacy is created, born from the cherished seeds of their ancestors. The theatrical luau show culminates with a fantastic fire dream featuring fire poi balls and traditional fire knife dancing.

We opted the pickup, train and dinner option which ended up costing nearly $700. I was happy to pay that knowing my tourism money is good for the islands economy. However, the bus waited for one person at the last pickup spot and they never appeared. We waited for about 20 minutes and then left without them. Then when we arrived we had missed the train. I’m going to be pursuing a partial refund but I don’t know yet if they’ll honor it. Also, and unrelated to my rating since I should have assumed this before booking so my bad, but if you’re not a fan of cruises for the crowds of tourists, this is probably not for you.

The food was great. The venue was well organized and they fed at least 400 people quickly and orderly. The show was amazing and informative about local culture and customs.
