Misty Fjords National Monument

Alaska's Inside Passage or Southeast Alaska is home to some of the most breathtaking scenery on earth. One of its jewels is the majestic Misty Fjords National Monument. Completely road-less and consisting of 2.3 million acres, an area larger than Yellowstone, makes a seaplane tour the only way to comfortably experience the many different levels within the deep, narrow fjords. More dramatic than the Grand Canyon, the fjords are steep walled inlets of the sea. Created by glacial gouging long ago, snow capped, sheer granite cliffs rise dramatically 3,500 out of the sea, ribbonned with waterfalls plummeting sensationally thousands of feet. Nestled within the steep walled canyons, lie pristine bowl-shaped alpine lakes suspended at many different elevations above sea level. Fed by more than 150 inches of misty rain annually, the lush rain forest, made of giant stands of spruce, hemlock and cedar, cling to the rugged rising terrain. Wildlife abounds in the area, with mountain goats and harbor seals being the most frequently sighted animals. Our most popular tour lasts 2 hours and takes you across Revilliagegedo Island over to the Alaskan mainland where the fjords are located, and into the heart of the monument. Headsets with voice communication are provided to passengers so you can chat in flight and ask questions as we fly. For the highlight of the tour, we will land on an alpine lake or on a calm bay at sea level and let passengers get off of the floatplane for a quiet excursion. Monument national des Fjords brumeux

Le passage intérieur de l'Alaska ou le sud-est de l'Alaska abrite certains des paysages les plus époustouflants de la planète. L'un de ses joyaux est le majestueux monument national des Misty Fjords. Complètement sans route et composé de 2,3 millions d'acres, une superficie plus grande que Yellowstone, fait d'un tour en hydravion le seul moyen de découvrir confortablement les nombreux niveaux différents dans les fjords profonds et étroits. Plus spectaculaires que le Grand Canyon, les fjords sont des entrées de mer aux parois abruptes. We just returned from our Alaskan cruise and had the best time riding in the seaplane with Adam. It was an awesome experience from start to finish. We researched many companies for safety records and decided to use Island Wings for our Misty Fjords Flightseeing tour, and we are so glad we did. It is a very reputable, well-run company; we felt very safe with Adam piloting the plane! Once in a lifetime opportunity!

We are a family of four that took the Misty Fjords Seaplane Tour. Our pilot was Adam, he was polite, friendly, informative and funny! He started with a safety overview of the aircraft at the dock before we left and we all felt very safe based on Adam's many years of flying in the local area and thousands of hours of flying time. The Fjord views were great, we got to see a couple of whales along the way. We landed in one of the Fjords where you get about a 20-min stop and deplane to stretch your legs and take some photos. Our son got to fly co-pilot and Adam answered all his aviation questions along the way. This tour was the highlight of our two week vacation in Alaska!

I cannot adequately describe the intense range of excitement I felt as soon as Michelle flew out from the dock to the Misty Fjord national monument. Our day was sunny and warm, not exactly what I expected for Alaska. I loved the fact that all of us on board had a window seat and was thrilled to sit in the copilot's seat on the way to our stop. Michelle narrated the landscape which helped to understand what we were seeing. She landed in the Tongass forest on a lake 1300' feet above sea level as gracefully as she had taken off from Ketchikan. We deplaned next to a waterfall and had a chance to take as many pictures as our cameras could handle. It was the most magical moment! From the start to our return flight, Michelle and her crew were most professional and kind. I'd highly recommend picking THIS company and this tour!! We felt safe with Michelle since not only is she the pilot but also flies her own DeHavilland plane. You will enjoy this trip!!
