Planning our Monument Valley adventure was easy from the beginning as Shae from Monument Valley Safari was so helpful when I first inquired. My group of 8 was eligible for the group rate so that was a bonus. My booking went smoothly and I was given clear instructions as to where to go and what to expect. What we did not expect was to be blown away by the beauty of the place upon arrival at The View Hotel (the meeting point). I recommend you arrive early to take in the breathtaking views from this hotel. There is a huge gift shop and also restaurant there which offers the same views as you partake in a nice meal. We were greeted by Anna, who drove us a few miles into the canyons where we met our actual tour guide, Duffy. Duffy was informative and kind, always sharing in depth stories and culture of the Navajo. He carries himself with pride and you can genuinely feel the love he has for sharing a piece of himself and of his people. Our tour was 3 hours long as we explored the back-country and stopped at several places with breathtaking views. Some of our stops were monumental arches where we were treated to a few songs while we took in the scenery, and a hogan where we learned more about the Navajo. It was a freeing experience and though this isn't listed as a spiritual excursion, it definitely was liberating to see the beauty of the Canyons up close and roam freely in between them. I recommend this to anyone looking for peace and quiet while witnessing first hand the beauty that is hidden in rural areas of our country, which we don't often come across.

The tour takes you not only through the monument that the public has access to, but also onto private Navajo lands where you get to see some beautiful arches and traditional hogans. Duffy, our guide, gave us some wonderful insight into the lives and culture of the Navajo. Definitely worth it!

I wish we could review how good Safari tours was at showing us Monument Valley but it was not to be. I do want to let folks know how good a company they are and believe that most folks never report on what I'm about to tell you? The weather when we arrived was very rainey, while we did see other tour operators will full vehicles of people climbing up and down the bumpy roads we did not notice Safari tour vehicles during this time and for good reason. When arriving to MV we contacted the Safari office and the operator Shaye explained that it was not safe to drive in the valley and that we could call him in the morning to see how the weather conditions were and reschedule. It rained all night and the next morning it seemed even worse. When we contacted Shaye in the morning he said not to worry and that he would issue us a full refund on Monday morning for our family group of 5. Monday came and as promised our refund was given. Between the rain drops the day we were there we did manage to take our rental van down in to MV but it was not the best thing to do. We did travel from SC to see this so it was going to have to be sweeping water to keep us away. This is when we saw many other tour operators with fully loaded open vans of people getting wet has they looked out over the valley in a mist of rain. Make sure to read reviews and tour operator policy regarding refunds, I think most say there are none for weather and to be honest I never read any of that when booking with Safari tours. These guys are good folks who I believe care about what they are doing and the experience they provide to their customers. Will for sure look them up the next time I travel out west and want to tour the monuments. Thanks Safari Tours!
