The Viator “tour” amounted to transportation to and from Mount Vernon with condescending background chatter from the driver that passed for area highlights. Not enough time at Mount Vernon (which was interesting, though undergoing extensive reparations until 2026). With tip, the day cost $225. Had we taken a cab and gone by ourselves, it would have run about $170 and we would have had more time at the site. I recommend YOU do that.

Take your time and walk the beautiful grounds. The museum was much bigger than expected so be sure to visit it.
