Tramway cars hold 80 people each and there are no seats. Passengers remain standing throughout the journey up the mountain
Distance is approximately 12,800 feet, with a vertical ascent of 5,873 feet - 15 minutes travel time one way
The tramway is known as a double reversible type of aerial tramway. Each car remains on one pair of track cables moving up and down without turning around. Each car serves as a counter balance to the other, the descending car is helping pull the ascending car up the mountain
Strollers are permitted on this tour
During holiday periods, you may experience long lines. We recommend you travel outside of these peak times to fully enjoy everything the tramway and mountain have to offer.
There is parking in 13 paved lots near Valley Station. There is free shuttle service from parking lots to Valley Station entrance available weekends and holiday periods

This was a fun thing to do to escape the heat of the desert. You do need a reservation ahead of time, as well as a parking pass. One thing that was surprising was the person at the entrance was armed with a taser and a gun. We wondered why the entrance person needed to be armed. But, once at the tram, there was not a taser in sight. The tram was crowded, which was a little surprising, but everyone wore a mask and temperatures were taken while entering. Once at the top, there are wonderful views. There are also a few walking trails that are easy to walk. You will have a steep walk down to the trails, which means you will have a steep walk back to the tram. Just take your time and you should be fine. It is at an elevation of 8000 feet, so do keep that in mind. And bring a jacket as it is about 40 degrees cooler at the top. And bring water.

The web site says that you can purchase & print tickets on line in advance. Since we were travelling and didn't have access to a printer, we drove there intending to purchase tickets then. There the rent-a-cop at the gate told us that you MUST purchase on-line and download and e-ticket. And, by the way, they were sold out for the next three days. It would have been nice to know all that before driving out there.

Great afternoon activity. The staff was very friendly and the views from the tram were great as the rotating platform ensures everyone gets a chance to see the different viewpoints. In the tram, it wasn't as physically distanced as probably recommended, but because there were windows open letting air flow through, and the staff was very strict about face mask usage, the risk felt as mitigated as possible. At the top, there was a nice trail through the woods to see different lookouts onto Palm Springs.
