My husband and I recently had one day in Philadelphia. There were so many things we wanted to see, and when started mapping things out we realized we would spend the bulk of our day walking. We decided to check out the Big Bus tour. We really enjoyed it. We had 2 different guides over the course of our day, Ginger and Sebastian. Both did an excellent job! Our drivers were Eddie and Jiles, and they navigated the streets of Philly with ease. We purchased our tickets first thing in the morning and hopped on at 5th and Market St. We rode the bus until the Philadelphia Museum of Art stop. There, we got off and looked around for a little while. We checked out the museums we were interested in, then walked down Benjamin Franklin Parkway. We had the time constraints of timed tickets at Independence Hall, so we walked back that way to see some of the other things on our list. After our tour, we hopped back on the bus and did the entire route. We enjoyed the tour and were thankful to get to see so many things in one day!

If you are under a very tight schedule and you want to have a condensed overall view of what Philly has to offer you need this trip. You have the option of the hop on hop off or like I did just enjoy the ride all around . The are available form 9:30 am up to the evening. Very nice trip!

hello AMBB, Thank-you for your review & for choosing Philadelphia Trolley Works & Big Bus. I am pleased that you enjoyed your tour experience. Seeing the historic sites and modern cultural attractions from atop the double decker bus is so much fun. Our live guides are expert at pointing out and explaining everything along the way, so I am glad you got to sit back & enjoy.

The premise sounds good - just hop and hop off! Reality, is it's a giant waste of time and money. Riding around once, you do see the basics and some guides are definetly better than others (drivers too....) You learn about the main points of interest, and the first time around, is kinda fun. But when everything closes at 5 (bus stops then too), time is a big crunch, and the full bus circle is 90 minutes. They go every half hour, one way only. So if you are at stop 7, and you want to go to stop 2, settle in, b/c you have a long wait in front of you! Wastes so much of the day waiting for the bus, and waiting for your stop. Frustrating. And while they do go to most of the places I wanted to go, they don't go to the Italian Market, which is where the famous Pat's & Geno's Philly Steak places are, or the Magic Gardens (mosaics). We ended up getting a cab, and they ended up being around $10 to get to where we needed to go. I spent $228 for 4 bus passes for 2 days and the upgrade to the Philadelphia Pass which is supposed to get you into certain places free. I would NOT do that again. You can walk to all the historical places - Liberty Bell, Besty Ross house, etc., and then take a cab everywhere else or some kind of tour, b/c it'd be so much cheaper and more efficient. I would NOT recommend doing the hop on bus service. There were several more things I wanted to do in my 3 days in Philly, that we just didn't have time for. We walked A LOT, but also seemed to lose a lot of the days just waiting FOR the bus and waiting ON the bus.

Hello ificouldonlyfly, My apologies that your tour experience was not what you expected. Our staff takes pride in providing excellent customer service & in accommodating guests, so I am truly sorry this was not your experience. Our sales and tour staff take pride in effectively explaining the tour to guests. . Our website and tour map clearly indicate the route so you can tell in advance all the sites and attractions we pass by and where our stops are located. Our guides are helpful in providing information about which stops are most convenient to locations not directly on the tour. For example, our stop 21 is only a few blocks from South Street's Magic Garden, and we have a Stop for South Street at 2nd, so the Magic Garden is just a few blocks from that stop as well. Pat & Geno's and the Italian Market are located in South Philadelphia and our tour route covers Center City, which includes Old City, Society Hill, Fairmount Park, the Museum District, Avenue of the Arts, Washington Square West, Independence National Historic Park, and our business district. The fabulous Reading Terminal Market is one of our Stops and there are numerous cheesesteak options along the tour route as well.
