This is a small group rafting and scenic driving tour through the famous Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve with a scenic float trip (no whitewater) through the home of the largest bald eagle congregation in the world. Thousands of bald eagles travel here to feed on salmon in the fall and winter. In spring and summer watch for eagles nesting and raising their young.

Both our driver, Byrne, from Haines and our rafting guide (Lisa, I think) were very knowledgeable about the area and about the wildlife we were observing. Unfortunately it was cold and windy that afternoon but our guide had a bag full of mittens to keep us warm. We saw several species of birds including eagles, all identified by the guide. The area is beautiful!

We took this tour as part of our land/cruise adventure. Had a great time. We were met in Haines and driven by Byrne to the Chilkoot River where we met our raft guide, Nate, who did an excellent job of getting us down the river. The view was beautiful and we even got to see Arctic Terns.

We had THE most amazing trip down the river. We were clueless when we started, y’all, you DONT paddle! That’s what the guide does! You may have to lean in one direction,or sit on one side of the raft, but there is no work for the passengers involved! All you have to do is be amazed at the majesty in front of you! We saw eagles, eagle nests and a few moose. It was so stunningly beautiful, I wouldn’t care if we saw any animals! The river, the Douglas firs, the mountains, the blue, blue sky. I want to go again!!
